Death and injury from drowning happen every day in pools, natural bodies of water, bathtubs, and even buckets. The statistics are staggering: ten people drown every day for a total of 3,400 each year. It’s a leading cause of accidental death among children of all ages and the single leading cause of injury-related death among children ages one to four.  Did you know that 6 inches of fast-moving floodwater can knock over an adult? A person can drown in just a few inches of water so be sure to play it safe in your house or in your yard. To protect yourself follow these guidelines: provide close and constant attention to children, children and adults that are inexperienced swimmers should should wear approved life jackets, swim in areas that are designated for swimming, and have everyone in the family learn to swim.
