Chatham EMS

Chatham EMS is a private non-profit department that has 150 personnel who serve our community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our ambulances deploy from 8 locations covering nearly 632 square miles of Chatham County, Georgia. Our services include 911 coverage county wide, Interfacility Transport, Neonate Transport, SWAT and Infectious Disease Teams.

About Us

Chatham EMS covers the 632 square miles of Chatham County, Ga. This involves handling 911 calls, non-emergency transports, special events and private events. With Chatham County having the beach at Tybee Island, farmland on the westside of the county, and a large metropolitan City of Savannah the calls are very diverse. All of these put together means our personnel ran 75000 calls in 2020. To handle the call volume, CES has a total of 15 apparatus staffed at all times. This includes several ALS quick response vehicles (QRV), ALS ambulances, and BLS ambulances. The shifts rotate to make sure there is coverage at all times. Shifts are divided into 8, 12, and 24 hour shifts.

Our Positions

EMT Basic

Emergency Medical Technicians Basic (EMT-B) respond to medical emergencies and deliver patient care, support, and evaluation in a pre-hospital setting. This generally includes assessing the patient, determining the proper emergency care, and administering treatment. EMT-B also help with transporting patients safely between hospitals and care facilities.

Advanced EMT

An AEMT functions as a primary care provider in the pre-hospital setting. They are
responsible for all aspects of care provided to the sick and injured. The AEMT provides
basic life support and some advanced skills (AEMT), including patient assessment, airway
management, use of the automatic defibrillator and assisting and administering medications to
patients

Paramedic

CES Paramedics provides pre-hospital and intra-hospital advanced life support care from initial contact until patient care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility maintaining thorough patient care documentation. The Paramedic will follow the established medical protocols to give advanced life support to include advanced airway, medications, and specialized care. 

FTO Paramedic/EMT

CES Paramedic and EMT FTOs are assigned in to a normal shift but also participate as instructors for the respected qualifications. 

Lieutenant

CES Lieutenants are the first line supervisor in the streets. They area ssigned to an ambulance and handle some of the smaller issues that arise with the operations level. 

District Chief

Chatham EMS personnel are divided into four shifts. Each shift has a District Chief that handles the daily operations of EMS in the county. Our District Chiefs are Paramedic and equipped to responds to calls to help witht the large call volume.

Department Training

Chatham Emergency Services offers certification courses yearly for EMT Basic, EMT Advanced, and Paramedic. These courses are Georgia Department of Health and National Registry approved. NREMT classes our open to qualified students that would like to join the EMS community, other departments and for in house advancements. CES EMS Training also offers several other course to include BLS, ACLS, and PALS. Our EMS Instructors are the best in the area bringing their knowledge and experiences to the class to help lead students in their EMS career.
