Our Positions

Dispatch Trainee

All of our dispatchers begin in a trainee phase. This can be direct training with one of our Communications Training Officers or through our occasional dispatch recruit academy. Dispatch Trainees learn the fundamentals of non-emergency call taking and progress to emergency call taking. Trainees then learn the Computer Aided Dispatch software and the skills needed for effective radio communications.

Candidates earn the title of dispatcher once they are cleared from the initial training process. Dispatchers begin to learn the different roles within the communications center to include dispatching medical calls and dispatching fire calls.

Advanced Dispatcher

Once a dispatcher has been cleared in all disciplines of the CES Communications Center have the opportunity to earn the title of Advanced Dispatcher. This involves the candidate being proficient in all channel operations, possess the ability to train other personnel, fill in for the Dispatch Lieutenant as needed, and other duties as assigned.

Dispatch Lieutenant

CES Dispatch Lieutenants are the shift supervisors of the communications center. They oversee between 4-7 other team members and assist with the day to day and call to call needs. Our Dispatch Lieutenant positions are a great transition into leadership and limited to only 4 total positions.

Department Training

Chatham Emergency Services also has a Fire Division and EMS Division. Firefighters and EMS personnel undergo certification training specific to their discipline. Dispatchers have the opportunity to cross-train in other departments upon successful completion of Dispatch training. Some in-house training opportunities exist.
